The Retired Senior Volunteer Program - RSVP
Give Back to Your Community
The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is a federal program that networks with local agencies that need volunteers by recruiting, placing and recognizing those volunteers.
The program is for volunteers 55 and older who give of their time, their experience, and their energy to make the lives of others better and to help communities become more resilient. RSVP matches individuals with volunteer opportunities in non-profit organizations and government agencies throughout the entire state of North Dakota.
Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota facilitates the RSVP program in North Dakota.

RSVP Service Priorities
Interested in joining RSVP? Here's a sample of what we're currently doing through our service hubs in Bismarck, Dickinson, Minot, Grand Forks, Jamestown and Fargo:
RSVP volunteers deliver nutrition-balanced meals via Home Delivered Meals or Meals on Wheels to homebound clients in need of nutrition support to remain independent. Food delivery allows participants to engage briefly with the volunteer and thereby decrease incidences of loneliness and social isolation.
RSVP volunteer drivers will pick up clients from their homes and transport to medical appointments, faith-based events, congregate meal sites, shopping, social activities, and other errands that support independent living and social interaction.
RSVP volunteers serve older adults and adults with disabilities who are lonely and homebound. Activities may include listening, engaging in arts and crafts, card games, puzzles, reading, accompaniment to medical appointments or assistance with errands.
RSVP volunteers participate in Lutheran Social Services North Dakota’s Growing Together communal gardening project that connects neighbors and cultures while tending gardens to produce fresh vegetables to be shared and distributed food to insecure households/families.
RSVP volunteers assist with annual food drives for Great Plains Food Bank to increase the amount of food available at local food pantries.
Food Pantry Support
RSVP volunteers help support the missions of local food pantries by unpacking and sorting food donations, assisting clients with loading food into their vehicles, stocking shelves, or client interactions as assigned by the food pantry staff.
Leading Bone Builders
Trained RSVP volunteers will lead or assist with Bone Builders classes twice per week. Bone Builders is a free and fun anti-osteoporosis class featuring weights-based exercises held in area senior centers, senior living centers, or other community locations.
