BRAIN DEVELOPMENT

Over 90% of a child's brain development happens before they start kindergarten. Experiences and interactions during these first five years, when the brain is most "flexible", can influence a child's health, behavior and learning skills for a lifetime.

Parents and care providers can have a positive impact on child's development by talking with them, interacting through simple games and providing a safe, stress-free environment.

North Dakota Early Learning Guidelines (ages Birth to 3, and 3 -5) and and North Dakota Core Competencies provide common language and expectations for parents, child care providers and teachers as they track development and learning for children from birth to age five in these areas:

SOCIAL AND EMIOTIONAL
COGNITIVE
