Lutheran Social Services DIVERT counsels families with at-risk youth to prevent court involvement and keep families together while helping the youth develop skills and healthy activities.
Who is eligible?
At-risk youth ages 6–17 who are not yet involved in the juvenile justice system are eligible to participate. Services are currently limited to residents of Grand Forks and Nelson Counties in North Dakota.
Early intervention and family involvement are key components to Lutheran Social Services DIVERT (Discovering Integrating Voluntary Effective Resolutions Together). Other components of the program include:
Referrals from family members are always welcome. Referrals can also come through Juvenile Court, school or law enforcement.
Staff works to keep a young person’s risky behavior from developing into a bigger problem.
Counselors help youth and their families to set goals and find resources within the community to help them achieve those goals.
Counselors follow up with youth and their families to assess their progress and provide additional counseling as needed.
