The Restorative Justice and Youth Court Program accepts part-time volunteers for spring, summer and fall semesters. These positions are open to under-graduates in Criminal Justice, Social Work or related fields. All candidates must be able to pass required background checks and commit to a fixed number of hours, preferably 15-32 hours per week. Restorative Justice and Youth Court volunteer internships are unpaid.
Provide support to the program staff in Restorative Justice and Youth Court. Provide direct services to youth referred by the juvenile justice system and those who have been the victim(s) of their actions. Through this work, help fulfill the LSSND mission, "Guided by God's love and grace, Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota brings healing, help, and hope." Respond to all accepted referrals in an expedient manner. Prepare written communication. Attend required training. Conduct exit-interviews with juveniles at the completion of Youth Court services. Communicate with referring agencies regarding clients and services. Schedule appointments as directed. Maintain records and perform general clerical duties such as database entry, filing, making copies, preparing correspondence to clients and staff by mail, email and telephone. Set up, close and update client files as required. Perform public relations activities by presenting program information to a variety of groups and organizations. Coordinate Victim Empathy Seminars by notifying clients, referral sources and facilitators. Observe Community Councils and serve as a co-facilitator.
