Outreach Pantry Programs
The Great Plains Food Bank began the Outreach Pantry Program (OPP) in the summer of 2009 in response to the growing hunger needs in rural, sparsely populated areas of our state. The Outreach Pantry Program is a quick and easy way for communities that don’t have an existing food pantry to provide food assistance for low-income children, families and seniors. The Great Plains Food Bank finds a partner - a church, organization, business, etc. - that is interested in helping the hungry in their community.

We provide them ready-made food boxes, which are packed at the Food Bank’s warehouse in Fargo, filled with shelf stable products like canned fruit & vegetables, pasta and sauces, cereal and snacks. These boxes weigh about 40 lbs and will feed two people for about a week. After we deliver them, the community partner takes responsibility for storing the food safety and getting the food out to their community’s hungry.
