Advocacy
Hunger in America can be solved. It takes leadership and political will. Ending hunger will require that the public and private sectors join in a determined partnership to address the economic, political, and personal barriers that contribute to hunger. You have a role. We invite you to join us as a hunger advocate.
HUNGER ALERT!
Childhood Hunger Act Passed!
On December 2—by a vote of 264 to 157—the House passed the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (S. 3307). The bill was signed into law by President Obama on December 13.
We hope you’ll take this opportunity to send an email to your Members of Congress to thank them for protecting America’s children—and to remind them that there is still work to be done. We must have their support in restoring Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and in passing future legislation that will help Americans struggling with hunger.
Passage of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act is a victory for everyone—especially America’s hungry children. And it couldn’t have happened without dedicated hunger relief advocates.
You showed up in force to let Congress know where you stand on child hunger. In fact, over 50,000 e-mails and 4,000 phone calls were delivered to Congress from Hunger Action Center Advocates in support of child nutrition legislation.
Our partners, including the anti-hunger community, corporations, health, nutrition, education, children’s groups and many others all stepped up and made passing the child nutrition bill a priority. Thanks to a coordinated effort, we will have the biggest investment in child nutrition programs since their inception. We look forward to building on our success and engaging new partners in the fight against hunger!
Thank you for taking action! This achievement tells us decisively that advocacy works—and that every voice matters

Advocacy is critical to fighting hunger, and becoming a hunger advocate offers many ways to become active not only in important public policy issues of the day, but also within your community. Send us an email confirming your commitment noting HUNGER ADVOCATE in the subject line and we will be in contact with you.
Our advocates receive occasional action alerts and communicate with their legislators about hunger issues. They talk to their friends and other social contacts about the need for a solution to hunger. Many share their personal experiences with hunger with us. We hope you’ll join us today in our vision of a hunger-free America.
