J & A Farms donates 36,000 eggs to the Great Plains Food Bank

(Fargo, ND) – May 2, 2013 – The Great Plains Food Bank, a program of Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota, will receive 3,000 dozen eggs from J & A Farms on Friday, May 3. The eggs will be distributed throughout the month to food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters serving those who are homeless and hungry.

“Fresh and protein-rich food is always in great demand by the food pantries and soup kitchens we supply,” said Marcia Paulson, director of marketing and development for the Great Plains Food Bank. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer them fresh eggs.”

This is the sixth year J & A Farms, of Lake Park, Minnesota, has donated eggs. With this year’s donation, 22,034 dozen, or more than a quarter million eggs, have been given to families struggling with food insecurity.

“J & A Farms is a third generation family business, and we are proud to be partnering with the Great Plains Food Bank to provide much needed protein to the most needy in our community,” said Amon Baer of J & A Farms.

The need for emergency food assistance is great in North Dakota and western Minnesota. In 2012, the Great Plains Food Bank distributed food for 9.4 million meals to more than 75,000 individuals – 35% children and 14% seniors – struggling with hunger.
