LUTHERAN SOCIAL SERVICES HAVEN HOUSE
HOSPITALITY HOUSE TO OPEN IN WILLISTON
FOR FAMILIES OF HEALTHCARE PATIENTS
WILLISTON, ND – Remodeling will soon be underway for Lutheran Social Services Haven House, a new hospitality house for families of health care patients in Williston under development by Lutheran Social Services Housing. The project was made possible by the agency’s purchase of the former parsonage at 1232 13th Ave. W., Williston, from Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
“We are converting this residence into a hospitality house that will offer a comfortable place for health system patients and their families to stay while undergoing treatment as well as for families in bereavement situations,” according to Jessica Thomasson, director, Lutheran Social Services Housing.
“The property is located near medical facilities which makes it an ideal place for families to stay,” Thomasson added. “This simple act of hospitality can offer some measure of relief to a family with a family member receiving health care services or dealing with the grief that comes with the loss of a loved one.”
The remodeling will include making the building handicapped accessible and sprinklered as well as other updates.
A Volunteer Day for community volunteers to help kick off the remodeling project will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, made possible by a $300 donation from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. For details, contact the Lutheran Social Services office in Williston at 701-774-0749.
Opening of Lutheran Social Services Haven House is scheduled for April 2013. Admittance will be restricted to families referred by health care providers, churches and funeral providers. The facility will accommodate up to 12 people in six bedrooms for minimal fees on a sliding scale based on ability to pay. Funding for the project is from private donations.
“Operating Lutheran Social Services Haven House embodies the agency’s mission of delivering healing, help and hope,” Thomasson noted. “Lutheran Social Services Haven House will allow the agency to help meet a great need in Williston. It also creates a wonderful opportunity for Lutheran Social Services to work in partnership with local congregations in social ministry.”
Donations to help complete Lutheran Social Services Haven House are needed and appreciated and may be made payable to Lutheran Social Services Housing with “Haven House” in the memo line and mailed to Lutheran Social Services Haven House, PO Box 163, Williston, ND 58802. Please call the Lutheran Social Services office in Williston at 701-774-0749 with any questions about donating or volunteering.
