Adoption
Choosing adoption you are entering a lifelong process that will profoundly affect you and your family. There are different types of adoption for you to consider, including domestic adoption and international adoption.
Domestic
North Dakota Infant Adoption
North Dakota Infant Adoption places generally healthy newborns and toddlers. We access our pool of approved and waiting families who have successfully completed the preparation, training, and assessment process when a birth family is considering an adoption plan. A placement happens on average 1–2 years after assessment approval. This program is open to families with one or no children. Children come from diverse backgrounds. Openness in adoption allows you to gain much more information about your child’s birth family.
Identified Adoption
Identified Adoption is when you have made a direct connection with a birth family and all parties mutually agree to an adoption plan. The Adoption Option can assist you and the birth family in working through the adoption process and creating a plan that is personalized and comfortable for all. We strive to be responsive to your particular situation and time frame.
Interstate Adoption
Interstate Adoption is for North Dakota families who plan to adopt a child from another state in the US. Families network with licensed child placing agencies in other states for the identification and placement of the child. The Adoption Option can assist you in adoption preparation, training, and assessment services, in order to facilitate the placement of a child into your home. We will advocate for you and educate you on issues involved in the legal termination of birth parents rights and a child crossing state lines.
Relative Adoption
Relative Adoption allows family members who are seeking to legally adopt a grandchild, niece, or nephew to do so without the use of a licensed child placing agency. More distant relatives require an agency like the Adoption Option to assist in completing the adoption assessment process, as well as providing counseling services with the birth parents. This process would fall under the “Identified” adoption law and process.
International
International Adoption
International Adoption requires Adoption Option to network with international adoption agencies for the placement of children. We would be happy to assist you with the preparation & training necessary, the adoption assessment, Immigration paperwork, and dossier preparation. After placement we can complete any required post placement visits and reports, and assist in re-finalization. We can assist you in finding a reputable, licensed networking agency. We can connect you with other adoptive families who have added to their family with a child from China, Ethiopia, Russia, Guatemala, Colombia, Ukraine, Vietnam, and many others. Contact us for more details!
After you have attended an "Informational Meeting" with the local adoption social worker, you will be able to begin the adoption process. View a brief outline of the steps required in each type of adoption.
